Originally trained in physiology, Diamond is known for drawing from a variety of fields, including anthropology, ecology, geography and evolutionary biology. As of 2013, he is Professor of Geography at the University of California, Los Angeles. ==Early life and education== Diamond was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Both of his parents were from East European Jewish families who had emigrated to the United States.〔 His father, Louis K. Diamond, was a physician, and his mother, Flora Kaplan, a teacher, linguist, and concert pianist.
